How can you quantify a thing like hate? Even with scientists attempting to measure something like beauty (and failing in my opinion), it's hard to imagine that you could measure hate. But Oklahoma is setting quite a benchmark:
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin (R) announced earlier this month that state-owned National Guard facilities will no longer allow any married couples to apply for spousal benefits, regardless of whether they are same-sex or different-sex. The Supreme Court’s decision overturning the Defense of Marriage Act means that servicemembers with same-sex spouses are now eligible for federal benefits. Fallin’s unusual tactic is designed to avoid having to recognize those couples, which she asserts would violate Oklahoma’s constitutional amendment limiting marriage to one man and one woman.

Seriously, they are going to stop even straight people from applying for benefits due them, because they want to spite the gays. Now, that's bad enough. To make it even worse, they are doing this to couples who have served the country. Remember things like this when yahoos from places like Oklahoma tell you that they SUPPORT THE TROOPS. Because they don't.
They support their idea of the troops. And that's the fairy tale ideal of invincible soldiers who go into battle for the USA and never suffer any detrimental effects of it. Like death. Remember these yahoos having a conniption because Ted Koppel actually dared to name the dead in Iraq? Remember how Bush banned photos of soldiers' coffins during the Iraq War?
Remember, how Bush ignored the condition of Walter Reed Hospital and let it deteriorate? Remember that the Republicans always vote against Veterans? Remember Bryan Fischer saying that PTSD isn't real? They can't acknowledge death or injury to soldiers because that bothers their conscience and might make them think twice about their constant war mongering. That's because they only support their fairy tale ideal of the troops. Not who they are, as in some cases, gay and married.
They can't think of soldiers as gay men with husbands or lesbians with wives, because they see homosexuals as defective. You can see this in all anti-gay literature. It's why, to this day, that the American Family Association, the Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council all are waging a war on the American Psychiatric Association for removing homosexuality from their lists of mental disorders (after nearly a dozen peer reviewed studies between the fifties and sixties showed homosexuality to not be a mental illness, per se). Because in their view, the evidence be damned, LGBT people are defective. And their idealistic invincible-soldier- can-fight-endless-wars construct is threatened by the existence of LGBT soldiers.
So, they do this -- punish even the straight servicepersons -- because they don't want to acknowledge that LGBT people can serve their country too. And trust me, as much as they hate gay marriage, that idea is even more of a threat to them. And that is how much they hate gay soldiers.
