The Monty Python team are to return - in a stage show. The official announcement will be at a press conference Thursday however Terry Jones has confirmed the project:
"We're getting together and putting on a show - it's real," Jones told the BBC. "I'm quite excited about it. I hope it makes us a lot of money. I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage!"Terry Jones' last "Python" performance was the singing of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" at last year's Olympics closing ceremony. The news brought this wry comment from Neil Innes, a contemporary actor and singer who worked on some of the Python films:
"The idea of John [Cleese] doing the silly walks with two false hips is very amusing,"
Eric Idle has also tweeted to confirm the team will be holding a meeting on Tuesday and that the press conference will be live on Sky News. That may well account for the Sun on Sunday (also News Corp owned) breaking the news.
It will be interesting to see how age (all are over 70) and their later work influence the performance.
