I recently learned that the NSA is having trouble responding to requests for information. I decided that as a patriotic American, it was my duty to help out.
Americans are inundating the NSA with open-records requests, leading to an 888% increase in such inquiries in the past fiscal year. Anyone asking is getting a standard pre-written letter saying the NSA can neither confirm nor deny that any information has been gathered.

Dear Concerned Citizen:
We appreciate the time you took to ask if we've monitored any of your emails.
However, it is our stated position that you have no right to this information. We can neither confirm nor deny that any such recording has been made. In fact, we probably don't even know the answer to your question, as our automated systems records millions of electronic transactions automatically, without ever bothering to see if they relate to any sort of criminal act.
Our sweeps for information are so hair-trigger that we eavesdropped on the German head of state, and the President was unaware of it. It's possible that we are gathering intelligence on the most powerful people in the world at this very moment. Even we wouldn't know which ones without bothering to do a search of our records, and we can't be bothered to do one for your benefit at the moment.
If this sounds in any way unconstitutional, keep in mind that the Supreme Court is currently filled by the same people that decided Citizens United, so don't hold your breath on anything we do being declared unconstitutional.
Cordially yours,
The NSA
I wonder if the Libertarians have a problem with any of this? I suppose not. They are probably focused on the next proposed government shutdown.
