Today as you know Harry Reid finally moved to strip the Republicans of their ability to willy nilly filibuster Presidential appointments and federal judges, except Supreme Court Judges. This is a good thing...as far as it goes.
First of all, Republicans play for keeps, they play hardball. Democrats play softball, today's move was softball. Anyone care to hazard a guess what will happen the first time Barack Obama attempts to appoint a Supreme Court Justice?...anyone?
Does anyone believe that any single piece of legislation will be passed through the Senate for the entirety of Barack Obama's tenure...anyone?
I hear the hand-wringing and whining about well if we do it to them then we will have it done to us should the situation be reversed and a Republican President takes over and Republicans are the majority in the Senate.
Poppycock, I say Poppycock. As I said Republicans play hardball, as soon as such a situation arises they wouldn't think twice about throwing the filibuster out in toto and that is exactly what should have happened today.
To have your say in Government a party or individual has to win the hearts and minds and souls of the voters, so if we want to stop the Rebublicans from having their minority say then we had better stay on the right side of public opinion as we are. Majority rule and if people elect say Chris Christie next time then he has the right to have his appointments voted up or down also. The only thing we can do is make sure that doesn't happen
