From TPM:
The Obama administration will extend the deadline for people to sign up for health coverage that starts on Jan. 1, 2014, from Dec. 15, 2013, to Dec. 23, 2013, administration officials announced Friday.
I saw that California announced the same extension yesterday.
Will update when I see more.
11:02 AM PT: I saw earlier they were pushing back the 2014 open enrollment period for 2015 coverage and also pushing back the deadline for insurers to determine rates from end of April 2014 to end of May.
11:23 AM PT: I'm not seeing this on other sites. The only thing I'm seeing elsewhere is the 2015 open enrollment changes. An observation about this change is that Obama met with insurance co. CEO's last Friday and insurance regulators this week. Then yesterday CA announced they wouldn't reinstate canceled policies but extended the deadline to this same date. Are they all on board? Stay tuned I guess.
12:32 PM PT: as noted in the comments by ItsSimpleSimon: "From TPM: The administration consulted with insurance companies before making the change, Bataille said, and officials are confident that companies will have enough time between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1 to process applications and prepare to start coverage.
"This was done in consultation with them to make sure that consumers would be able to access coverage beginning Jan. 1," Bataille said."
