The Army is developing human shaped robots. Expectations are that as soon as 2020, they will be ready for combat - anywhere, even here?

AND surplus MRAP mine resistant combat vehicles are being donated to Sheriff's departments across the USA, and are starting to be seen in lower lever city police departments, protect and  serve, I suppose...

The MRAP's are already distributed in various counties in New York State...

You know...just in case...

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  no surprise; the local town here, population (11+ / 0-)

of fewer than 400 with 3.5 cop police dept. recently bought a couple of high speed "pursuit" vehicles for their force, along with bulletproof vests for everyday wear and complete SWAT outfit for each employee though none of the cops has any sort of SWAT training.

Come to think of it, the last murder in town was over 50 years ago and the most recent crimes are burglaries of empty river homes and someone TPing a couple of houses.  Oh, and the usual spate of traffic violations (Town has a 10mph speed limit in places and traffic fines are a line item in their annual budget.)

  •  So humans will now be outsourced from army. (0+ / 0-)

How is POTUS supposed to round up the molon labe NRA lunatics for the FEMA camps without sufficient numbers of LLE MRAPs?

Don't know if there are enough acronyms in that sentence.

she went to live with their relatives, but was very traumatized by her loss, and destroyed their carpets...

They took her to a local rescue league, which had a Gray Muzzle Weekend for older dogs to be adopted. Betsy was the only one not taken...when I saw this, I gut my other 2 dogs and we all met, and Betsy came home with us. She has been here nearly 4 months now, and is finally adjusting to the point where I am thinking about getting new rugs...

I think she is cute as all hell.

  •  Having our soldiers and sailors (0+ / 0-)

be robots instead of actual humans will save lives, so that is something to look forward to. The problem as I see it is when we start having not just the grunts but officers as well replaced by non-human robots. You could have entire brigades, or Naval flotillas, completely comprised of machines. At some point this strategy goes from being a life-saving, positive thing, to something more dangerous than just having humans do the work. The sci-fi movie Westworld was an excellent case in point - while the vast, vast majority of the robots functioned properly and were useful to humans (they even had beautiful robot hookers), just one robot going bad resulted in a very bad situation. What was sci-fi in the 1970s may become commonplace in the 2020s (if we don't watch out).

    •  Ok, so what happens when those robots decide (0+ / 0-)

that a cruise ship is the enemy and needs to be blown up?  Or decide that Iran is a threat and needs to be bombed on their own?  Or perhaps even decide to take out the White House?

And before you say that can't happen it is all a matter of programming.  If they are programmed to protect the US at all costs then they might decide that the president's recent speech makes him a threat to the country to be eliminated.

Outrageously expensive surplus crap that we don't need. While food stamps are cut.

provide war surplus stuff for free. Which is why we no longer can afford to do that with food.

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.

This crap is outrageously expensive to procure in the first place. But we "had to have it" to fight our insane wars.

materiel is a waste, period... This pic is from an air force base n Arizona, part of which is storage for obsolete military aircraft, known as The Boneyard...has been since WWII. Literally MILES of them...

Some are used for parts, some just sit in the desert..we pay for their storage and upkeep.

I suspect it will look badass in the summer parades.  The ubers and filthys (rich) making sure their Army has the gear for the revolution they know is coming.  Which reminds me... will Bloomie take his personal Army - the NYPD - with him when he leaves Office in January; or will they remain within the domain of the city of New York??  (credit, Justice on the After Show radio program)
