Stuffed full of thanksgiving cheer, I decided to relax not in front of the TV watching football like most of my relatives did, but rather reading various blogs. I like reading blogs before I sleep, as it always gives me something to think about as I drift off to sleep. Most of the time the blogs I read are usually pleasant, funny, or even had a interesting story.
But not this one. I read this mother's story about how somebody stole the pictures of her children, and started exploiting the picture to collect Likes/up-votes or whatever.
This is actually a pet peeve of mine...
Put simply, there's this annoying trend where people will post random pictures of injured, sick children that aren't even their own and say something along the lines of:
"If you hit like, one dollar will totally be sent to the kids' family. I'm totally not lying at all... trust me, I'm a random faceless person on the internet who could possibly be out to exploit a dying kid to get rich or just to seek attention like the attention-whore that I am!!"
The same thing if they're simply asking for prayers. They're still milking for likes, so it's all pretty much selfish behavior.
Basically, I see alot of pictures being used this way WITHOUT the parents' permission or knowledge, and they don't get any donations or other benefits from this at all.
Basically I've felt for a while that this kind of exploitative behavior should be prosecuted by law. Maybe a few years in prison, or be fined $200,000.
What do you think?
