Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
Well, last Monday evening Randall and I decided to rethink our calendar for the voter registration project. Randall's work schedule changed so that he was no longer able to make our Tuesday events; and the forecast for Tuesday was cold and wet. Added to this was our experience of the previous outings in what has shaped up to be the coldest November in my memory (given that my memory doesn't really hold much information prior to this morning's coffee). So we decided to cancel last Tuesday, and to put the project on hold for a while. Tuesday morning I checked in with LC, and then updated last Saturday's open thread with our decision. I think we'll be doing a wrap-up diary summarizing our first five outings pretty soon.
Meanwhile, we're looking for suggestions for a meeting place for our January meet-up. Our first three meetups were all outdoors, and we thought it might be an interesting change if we were to have this next one indoors. One of the features we're looking for is warm. Glancing at the calendar, I'm guessing January 18 is the date we're looking at.
And we had a white Thanksgiving! It snowed early Wednesday morning, enough that everything here at my house was covered by about an inch of snow; and it continued snowing all day. And everything was still white Thursday morning. I went out and cleared enough of the front porch and steps for my dinner guest to make it into the house; and we had a nice meal in front of the window looking out at the forest. I can't recall a white Thanksgiving (again with the memory thing); and having an old friend come by for dinner made for a wonderful day.
Last Monday I was in town and stopped by the Renaissance Hotel to see the Aids Memorial Quilt. It was a very moving experience; heart-warming and sad. If you're in town today and haven't seen the quilt, make some room in your schedule to do so if you can.
It's a beautiful morning here in Western North Carolina.
Enjoy!
