Welcome to the wonderful time of the year on Daily Kos where artists, photographers, craftspeople, and other people with unique skills get the chance to show what we have been up to and you get the chance to buy unique gifts for the holiday season. KosKatalog is chock full of wonderful and different gifts that have the added ingredient of love. We put ourselves into our work. Like many people I am struggling to make ends meet in this economy. My only income is Social Security. I am now caregiver to my disabled brother which is an additional expense but one I am glad that I can do. I am hoping to supplement my income with art, photography, and jewelry sales.
I have been an artist all my life. My second grade teacher, Mrs. Bluestein, put a note on my report card asking my parents to "Take a look at her art!" For many years I did pen and ink drawings and acrylic paintings. When arthritis hit my hands and I could no longer hold a pen or paintbrush I turned to the computer. I have discovered two places on the web where I can sell my art and photography. Zazzle can put my art on many different things including t-shirts, cups, water bottles, etc. Fine Art America does my art for display in many different ways and sizes.
My art takes many different forms. I love outer space and that element features prominently in my art.
The inspiration for Jupiter Rising came from a description of what it would look like if Jupiter were as close to us as our moon.
Jupiter Rising
I was reading my
National Geographic and an article on Saturn. They described how the moon Enceladus had water and geysers. We haven't landed a probe on the moon so I had to imagine what it would look like.
Saturn and Enceladus
Under Starry Skies was my first magazine cover.
Under Starry Skies
Starship Wonder was inspired by a bookmark I have had for years.

I have been a fan of fantasy books all my life. I even write a
fantasy short story collection.
I do a lot of work with dragons. Wizard's Tower was one of the most complex.
Wizard's Tower
I did
Yin/Yang for a coffee hour diary. The tiger is yin and the color orange while the dragon is yang and the color azure.

I often visualize my art. I can actually see the picture in my mind's eye. I saw the moon between two golden trees in
Pouring Starlight.

I do a lot of pictures with a nature theme.
Call of the Wild has been one of my most popular.

Gaia is Mother Earth.

Behind the Falls was inspired by a trip my Dad and I made when I was in college where we actually were able to see a waterfall from behind the water.
Behind the Falls
Eagles was done originally as a request.

End of Day is my tribute to one of my favorite cities, San Francisco.

Dinosaurs was a request from my niece for her youngest son who was interested in both dinosaurs and Stonehenge.

Teddy Bear's Picnic was done for my Mom.

I started taking photographs as a young girl with my Brownie Starlight camera that I saved my allowance to buy. I have now graduated to digital photography. My late brother, Mike, bought me a beautiful Canon Rebel camera. I think of him every time I use it.

I have been making jewelry for many years. Recently at the request from friends I have added Steampunk influenced jewelry to my collections. Making jewelry is a real challenge because Pixie insists on helping. Of course her idea of help is to lay on the things I am using, batting beads around, pulling on the strings, etc. So each jewelry piece comes with the added bonus of Pixie love.
