Gee, I don't know what I did, but I clicked some button or hit some combination of keys that made my diary go poof! just when I was ready to publish it. Since I type straight into the template online off the top of my head, I can't recreate it. Once it comes out of my fingers and onto the screen, it's out of my head forever.
So, before another disaster resulting from my lack of hand-eye co-ordination visits me, let's get down to it.
I've been checking my DKos PM, but only have one new Secret Biblio-Santa, Ellid. Right now it's poor Ellid because she is the odd person out with no one to be her SS in return. What is it? Doesn't anyone believe in writing to Santa anymore?
Think of it, while so many of you Secret Biblio-Santas are busy in your workshops hand-tooling fine leather covers, gluing endpapers, and cutting pages on th enew books you're making for lucky recipients, Ellid sits in her workshop with nothing to do. That doesn't seem right.
What can you do about it?
Please turn the page. . .
That's easy! Simple! And inexpensive! Here's what:
*Submit your name to me using DKos PM system with a description of your reading taste, whether you want tree or e-books, and your Amazon User Name for your public accessible Amazon (or other retailer's) Wish List where your Santa can choose a title as your gift and have it automatically sent to you.
*If you wish to receive a book from another online source than Amazon, be sure that it accepts PayPal.
*If you wish to receive only specific titles and do not want to be surprised by someone else's choice for you, then you will have to pay for your own book(s) by setting up a "book registry" debit account at your supplier of choice. Then allow the Santa to choose one of those titles.
*Gifters may spend whatever amount they choose. Self-gifters, of course, ditto. In either case, it's your money to be as generous or budgetary conscience with as you choose.
*In some cases, you may have to provide your personal snail mail address if the retailer is not set up like Amazon for buying a gift for someone other than yourself, or if you don't have or don't choose to create your Amazon Wish List.
If you do wish to, you can set up an Amazon Wish List here: http://www.amazon.com/....
You might want to call it "R&BLers Wish List" so your Secret Biblio-Santa will know they are at the right place.
Fortunately, the value of a present when it's a book is not measured by how much it costs, rather, it's measured by the pleasure it brings the recipient who knows the care and consideration the gifter gave in making the choice just for him or her. It's also measured by the memories that we who are book lovers create when we sink into a good book, submerse ourselves in words, and finally close the covers on what has become a good friend.
I remember my excitement as a child when at Christmas, I unwrapped those thick, rectangular, hefty presents that became Oz books as my eager fingers tore at the paper. For days after Christmas the feelings of being special, tingling with excitement and anticipation lasted as I pursued the adventures of my magical friends. I will never forget how happy a gift of books made me all those years ago. And that magical feeling of joy and excitement when I get a book even though I'm so much older has not lost its power over me.
I think all book lovers have such memories and such emotions. Do you have a golden recollection about a book you got for Christmas? One that remained the boon companion of your imagination long after the video games and gadgets were put away? Please tell us about it in the comments.
