"I would nominate Pete Seeger", from Harry Belafonte inducting Pete Seeger into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 1996. (That's the actual quote. Diary title limit wouldn't allow the full quote).

On my list of personal "Heroes" Pete Seeger is #1. For sure there are those who have walked the world stage that may have moved the peace and justice needle closer to  righteousness than Pete and are held up as beacons for us to follow, but what were they singing?

They were singing We shall overcome, If I had a hammer, Which side are you on? Where have all the flowers gone?, and many more. If you watch the video linked above, Harry Belafonte has a much more comprehensive list of these songs and how and where they influenced the people.

PS

I don't think Pete would approve of adding his face to Mt. Rushmore, but its the thought that counts;-)

I'm a bit embarrassed as a DFH that I did not know that Pete had been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. I came across that fact as I was engaged in my early morning Youtube fest today. How did I get there?

As I was perusing some of the diaries this AM someone mentioned "Gilead". Having too many song lyrics in my head, Gilead immediately began my internal search engine since it was part of a song I knew. What was the name and who sang it? Cue the hour glass spinning. Ding, Mark Spoelstra. Search, search, search... here it is, The times I've had.

Let me tell you 'bout the times I've had
They ain't so good and they ain't so bad
Let me tell you 'bout the times I've had
Travelin' up the road to Gilead
Let me tell you 'bout the places I've been
Let me tell you 'bout the folly of men
Oh, oh, oh, the times I've had.
Hmmm, what's that on the side bar.  The Story Behind "Forever Young" by Pete Seeger
Mini-documentary about the recording of the song "Forever Young" by Pete Seeger featured on the album "Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International"
Which lead to the induction video. Damn it nice to learn something new.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
