I saw on the news that George Zimmerman has a truly hideous painting for sale on ebay and bids are up to almost $100,000.

Appalling.

So I decided to do something about it.  I created my own Ebay auction for a signed first edition copy of my novel "American Loser" and I will donate 50% of the proceeds to the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

Here's the auction:  http://www.ebay.com/...

"American Loser" is the story of Mikey Stevens and follows him on his blackly hysterical romp through the dark side of the American Dream, where the endings are never happy and it can always be worse.

Your winning bid will go toward the fight against racial injustice and help a hard-working artist and his very personable cat.

So go ahead and bid.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

And leave a maudlin GBCW note.
Hopefully before he kills anyone else.

you can pledge the portion of the proceeds to your charity of choice automatically

you'd even save a few bucks on your fees.

It seems like you're hoping to profit by linking it to Zimmerman and getting Kossacks to bid the price of your self-published book way up in some sort of anti-Zimmerman frenzy.

Sorry if I'm mistaken, but this just doesn't smell right.

More of an illustration of what Zimmerman is doing by putting his own creative product out there - and also highlighting that enough people want to support Z that they are willing to bid that high. Diarist is likely well aware that Stevie Z's book isn't going to get that treatment.

StevieZ, please disregard my previous comment.

        •  No worries (0+ / 0-)

Absolutely no offense taken.  Yes, I'd like to profit somewhat on this (I did put 10+ years into the book and have a cat to feed), while at the same time A> sending a message that what Zimmerman did to Martin was unacceptable and enough people out there take offense that he got away with it  B> that the TM Foundation benefits.

So if you could find it within you to go onto the auction and bid, it would be most appreciated.

  •  Interesting (0+ / 0-)

And equally interesting questions about how "original" the image is

Seeing as Shutterstock’s images are copyrighted and are not free to use, things could potentially become legally complicated if Zimmerman did, indeed, crib the image from the stock photo company.
