While they are sold out now, apparently Wal-mart was selling panoramic posters of the Occupy Wall Street protests through their Walmart Marketplace. Yes, one of the biggest offenders of low wages industrial complex is now profiting off those who were protesting corporate greed and exploitation. Now, granted, the Walmart Marketplace is where individuals and others can sell products upon getting approval from Walmart and, I assume, let Walmart take a cut of the sale.
Except, in an additional twist, that the seller isn't even the photographer. The seller is a company called Postercorp, the publisher is a company called Liebermans and the artist credit is listed as Panoramic Images
Meanwhile the photographer, Tom Sheckels (from my home state of NJ) wasn't even aware that the photo was for sale on Walmart. He licensed his photograph to Panoramic Images as he has done numerous times before, and they licensed the photo to places like Getty Images and others. Which eventually ends up being printed and sold for Walmart. And due to our system of licencing any creative works, every company in the mix takes their share before he will.
So not only will one massive corporation profit off of off OWS, it's numerous companies. And maybe one individual, who took the photo, might get a crumb or two.
