Unlike many people I'm not a huge Will Ferrell fan. I mean, he's funnier than Adam Sandler but that's a pretty low bar. Likewise Steve Carell who, on the scale of The Daily Show correspondents, ranks somewhat below Al Madrigal currently the least funny. David Koechner and Paul Rudd I hardly know at all.
Anyway they'll all be on to talk about Anchorman 2 which is supposed to be some kind of devastatingly novel critique of modern "traditional" media that while viral I'll wait until it hits the torrents to watch. You see, being 120+ years old and all, I remember the froo-frah that accompanied the introduction of the "Eyewitness" news format in the 70s (as well as the Mary Tyler Moore Show) and in retrospect it seems the epitome of "hard hitting investigative journalism" by comparison with the rolodex stenography that passes today (presaged by Murphy Brown).
A Colbert Moment-
Forgive me for not being overly impressed. Jon does Ron Burgundy 4 nights a week and has for years and the interview will suck because there are too many people and they're all comedians and peers of Jon and even after all this time his interviewing skillz are too low for a roach to crawl under.
Witness Erick Prince.
Keanu Reeves is not just an airhead, he plays one on the screen. His most typecast role was Ted in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, but that was a quarter century ago and it's been all downhill since then.
He'll be on to talk about 47 Ronin, another of his martyr movies. Its inspiration is a much better film by Akira Kurosawa, Seven Samurai (which also inspired The Magnificent Seven), and of course the 'completely true' story of the 47 psychopathic samurai who plotted and schemed for years to revenge their master and carried out their plans in a blaze of suicidal massacre.
Merry ek'smas.
Tomorrow our guests will be Jonah Hill and Ben Stiller.
We will also sing the traditional ek'smas carols and huddle terrified in our Santa Shelters for the duration of what promises to be a bleak and cheerless season.
I will probably publish again at some point or another in the interim, perhaps ek'smas and New Year's Eves just to make sure your snark meters stay pegged at 11, but you can't count on that.
Maybe you should make your own fun.
