If Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell ran a blog, it would be Daily Kos Elections
Hi, my name is David, and I'm an elections addict. I'm also a pusher.
If you're reading this site, there's a good chance you are, too. Daily Kos, after all, was founded 11 years ago to focus chiefly on our nation's congressional and presidential elections. It was a time when Democrats were deep in the minority in both the House and Senate—plus some guy named George something-or-other occupied the White House—and nascent progressive activists wanted to know one thing: How do we take it all back?
Well, since then, we've managed to do just that, albeit with some setbacks along the way. But as a result, Daily Kos' focus has broadened, since with Democrats in power, it finally made sense to focus not just on politicking but on governing as well.
We haven't forgotten our roots, though, and at heart, this will always be a site devoted to campaigns and elections. That's why Markos brought over the gang from the Swing State Project almost three years ago to create the ultimate portal for downballot elections coverage, the unambiguously named Daily Kos Elections.
At Daily Kos Elections, we aren't in the business of weaning you off your addiction to polls, fundraising numbers, and election night returns. We're here to feed it. Think of us as the Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell of the campaign circuit. And depending on your point of view, the best (or worst) part of it is that it's all free. So how can you get our dope? We're all over the place, so head below the fold to find out where to get your fix.
• The
Daily Kos Elections main page is where you'll find most of our ganja, including our high-octane Digest.
• What's the Digest? I'm glad you asked! Every day, we separate the wheat from the chaff and summarize the most interesting, most important, and funniest campaign news for Senate, House, and gubernatorial races around the nation. We also delve further into the weeds whenever there are key state legislative or mayoral races, and sometimes we go even deeper than that.
• You can get the Digest in three forms. There's the Morning Digest, which is a recap of the previous day's developments. That goes up at 8 AM ET every day at Daily Kos Elections. (Here's a recent sample, to get you started.)
• You can also subscribe to the Morning Digest via email. It'll hit your inbox at 8 AM ET sharp, every weekday. It's a great read for your morning commute. Click here to sign up—and tell all your friends!
• And for the truly hardcore among you, there's the Live Digest. That's our liveblog of each day's campaign news, as it happens in real time. So if you can't wait until the next morning, head over to Daily Kos Elections, find our Live Digest thread (it goes up each day at 9 AM ET) and just keep hitting refresh like crazy. This is what we repackage to create the Morning Digest; for a taste, click here.
• You can also find us on Twitter as @DKElections and on Facebook.
• Every Tuesday that there's an election, no matter how small, we post an open thread at 6 PM ET. (Here's an example.) Come by and get your chatter on!
• We also have tons of extra goodies, including presidential election results by congressional district and by legislative district, something no one else has. We also maintain regularly updated race ratings for Senate and gubernatorial races (House coming soon).
Just remember: The first step is admitting you have a problem. Step two is bookmarking Daily Kos Elections. The rest will take care of itself. We'll see you on the campaign trail, fellow junkies!
