I dunno. Maybe this isn't the right time of year for this, but...
I got this email, unsolicited, from a family member who had it sent to her (and a long list of others) from someone in my extended family:
To All My E-Mail Friends - hnl.
I will be making a conscious effort to wish everyone a Merry Christmas this year... My way of saying that I am celebrating the birth Of Jesus Christ.
So I am asking my email buddies, if you agree with me, to please do the same. And if you'll pass this on to your email buddies, and so on... maybe we can prevent one more tradition from being lost in the sea of "Political Correctness".
To one and All... Jesus is the reason for the season!
Make this the "Gratitude Attitude" Season in celebration of the life we have been given...
I responded. I'm an activist, and if you drop a political email on me with about 100 email addresses attached to it, I can't help myself:
whew! Thank god someone is standing up for the Christians! At long last!
I mean for years, they've been relentlessly assaulted by those evil gays that want to marry the soulmate of their choice. Damned infidels, always bellyaching about politically correct equal treatment.
And for years, Christian males have been just raked over the coals by all those pushy women that don't want to be groped in the workplace and - can you believe it - want equal pay for equal work. I've long said that those politically correct feminists with their unreasonable and emotional demands are doing the work of the devil.
And don't even get me started on what white Christians have been forced to deal with as a result of those politically correct dark-skinned people pushing their outrageous demands for non-discrimination. Those creeps ended Jim crow, isn't that enough? NOOOOOOO..... Now they want the jobs and the right to buy houses in white christian neighborhoods and to eat at the same lunch counter and to swim in the same swimming pools. All that political correctness just aggravates the hell out of me.
And now... What's up with all that Happy Holiday's crap? Who cares if this country is filled with people that aren't Christian... Damned politically correct Jews with their Hanukkah...
I mean, for us Christians, the holiday has nothing to do with peacefulness and the golden rule and all that crap Jesus taught. Nope... It's about making a point out of demeaning everyone else by manufacturing a controversy over Happy Holidays because Fox News told us there's a war on Christmas.
Really folks, the next time you decide to complain about political correctness, step back for a second and ask yourself if what you are really complaining about is that someone else called you out for being a jerk when you were being a jerk. Because that's all political correctness ever amounts to - a small request that you refrain from doing or saying something that offends folks that did nothing to offend you.
With that said, Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays to everyone! Pray for Peace.
