Teacher's Comments from Ms. Tallon:
My Students: When do we get to launch rockets? That is the first question I am asked at the beginning of every school year. In order for my students to become active members in their learning, they need model rockets to construct and launch during our forces and motion unit.
My students are highly motivated, inquisitive, and hard-working sixth grade scientists who excel when provided hands-on activities to coincide with their lessons. We live in a rapidly growing community, but our budget from the state continues to take deep cuts. Unfortunately, we do feel the cuts in the classroom, most often when trying to provide materials for hands-on activities. These materials are necessary for my students to investigate, gain a deeper understanding, and develop science skills to become successful sixth grade scientists.
My Project: I like to provide my sixth grade scientists the opportunity to become active participants in the classroom. To accomplish this task, materials for the model rockets must be provided for them to engage in their exploration and make their science come "alive." When my students feel they can take ownership of their learning, they begin to develop a love of learning.
My students need Estes Alpha Model Rockets and and Estes A8-3 engines.
As an educator, one of my goals is to teach my students to investigate and think for themselves. I want to challenge my scientists by providing them model rockets to construct and launch during our forces and motion unit.
