First thread here. Second thread here.
9:12 AM PT: Christie basically says he believes people unless they are proven to be liars. Not an ounce of skepticism in his bones. Really? If that's true, that's a pretty big flaw.
9:13 AM PT: Christie: "I found out [about the emails] for the first time at 8:50 yesterday morning."
9:17 AM PT: If Christie's story is true, and Bridgette Ann Kelly really lied to him, shouldn't every action she took during his administration be under review? Why isn't Christie reviewing them?
9:24 AM PT: Christie again says he never met with the Fort Lee Mayor, and never heard his name. But: there's this picture. And then, on queue (after I wrote that), Christie concedes: "I may have met him on a greeting line."
9:25 AM PT: Fox is back to talking about the Gates book. Haha.
9:26 AM PT: "The buck stops at my desk," says Christie. But of course his problem is that he has no idea where the buck is, apparently. Again he says, twice: "I am humiliated."
9:30 AM PT: Christie on whether he'd considered resigning: "That's a crazy question, man. I had nothing to do with this. [...] What was I thinking about when I went to sleep last night? 'How did this happen?'"
9:31 AM PT: Christie was pretty close there to pulling a Boehner. But he fought back the tears.
9:40 AM PT: Christie on why he didn't get the documents implicating his administration before the media: "We asked Bridget Kelly said they didn't exist."
9:42 AM PT: "I am a very sad person today. A person close to me betrayed me." Poor Chris Christie, he's the victim here.
9:44 AM PT: Meanwhile, over the at the State Assembly, David Wildstein has arrived to deliver his testimony.
9:57 AM PT: Finally, Christie wraps up the press conference. The short version of the nearly two-hour press conference was: Chris Christie was as much a victim as Fort Lee was, in his view, because (according to his claims) he was lied to by his staff. In fact, he repeatedly said it was the (alleged) lying that upset him most—which seems like a strange set of priorities for him to have.
9:58 AM PT: And the state assembly committee hearing at which David WIldstein will testify is streaming live here.
