New Jerseyans can heave a sight of relief and go back to their interrupted activities, temporarily put on hold for the past week when it appeared that their Governor and his staff were involved in wreaking havoc on the lives of innocent commuters and an entire town for some sort of diabolical political goal.
The Governor has already done the due diligence and investigation he promised the state of New Jersey and has discovered the real culprits. It can now finally be revealed that the events of the last few months can be traced back to their source, which turns out to be those humorless people who can't even get a chuckle of a good shakedown:
LEFTWING BLOGS
I wish I were kidding, but I am not. See below for details
Courtesy of Talking Points Memo:
In a short statement to CNN on Tuesday, Christie spokesman Colin Reed blasted the theories, including those that posit the closures, which tied up traffic for days in Fort Lee, N.J., were to get revenge on rivals or possibly linked to a local real estate development.
“We’re not commenting on every wild-eyed conspiracy theory that’s originating on left-wing blogs,” Reed told the cable news network.
Christie's Office Blasts "Wild-Eyed Conspiracy" Theories in Bridge Scandals
Talking Points Memo summarizes the current popular theories, which I guess they are implying the leftwing bloggosphere is, well, blogging about.
One of the theories that has been floated by New Jersey Democrats is that the shutdown was revenge against a local mayor who declined to endorse Christie's re-election. Another, first raised by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, is that it was retaliation against a local senator who blocked the governor's court nominees. A third, raised by MSNBC host Steve Kornacki and former Jersey political reporter Brian Murphy, is that the closures may have been somehow tied to a nearby real estate development.
Naturally, Rachel Maddow has already crafted and put out her own response to the comment which you can read in full here:
Reflecting on "conspiracy theories"
In Christie’s case, a vindictive governor’s top aides conspired, in secret, to exact political retribution on at least one community in New Jersey. They acted deliberately and with forethought, scheming behind the scenes, and then lied about it.
This is not conjecture; this is not speculation; this is simply what happened. There was a real-life, grade-A, gen-u-ine conspiracy.
If there are theories seeking to understand why in the world Team Christie engaged in this misconduct, it’s only because we don’t yet know the motivation for the Christie administration’s corruption. There was, as a point of fact, a conspiracy, but since it’s unclear why Christie aides acted as they did, we’re left to come up with educated theories based on the available evidence.
Rachel is quite clear in distinguishing herself as a professional journalist, which I get, since what the Christie spokesperson is attempting to do is to denigrate the professional journalists covering this story as being no better than the basement dwelling Cheeto dust covered denizens of the interwebs as is the common popular image of bloggers. (Although perhaps leftwing bloggers are covered in gluten-free organic pretzel dust.)
The Christie office has now advanced two talking points in their pushback about Bridgegate:
1. It's all those partisan Democrats being partisan
2. It's a conspiracy theory being advanced by wild-eyed lefties
I have to imagine that the next explanation will have to involve Benghazi, how could it not?
So my fellow wild-eyed bloggosphere inhabitants, I hope that we are all properly chastised and put in our place by the Christie spokesperson. They will not dignify us with a response!
