SNL's Tarem Killiam as Speaker John Boehner (R. OH)
Received this e-mail from Congressman Bruce Braley's (D. IA-01) U.S. Senate campaign regarding Speaker John Boehner (R. OH) and his GOP colleagues refusal to extend unemployment benefits:
For millions of jobless Americans, unemployment insurance is an essential stopgap that helps folks pay the bills and stay financially afloat while they look for work.
It provides peace of mind for families who would otherwise have to choose between making a mortgage payment or buying groceries, or between filling up the gas tank or paying the cell phone bill -- both of which are vital services when you’re out of work and searching for a job.
Yet during last year’s budget negotiations, the extreme Tea Party refused to extend long-term unemployment insurance, cutting off benefits to 1.3 million Americans -- including thousands right here in Iowa.
And right now, John Boehner and the Tea Party are still holding out on renewing critical unemployment aid -- that’s why I need your help.
Tell Speaker Boehner that it’s time to renew long-term unemployment insurance for jobless Americans. Add your name to the petition today.

The extreme Tea Party’s refusal to extend unemployment insurance is politics, pure and simple.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that renewing unemployment insurance would actually boost our economy and produce over 200,000 new jobs. And already Senators on both sides of the aisle have taken the first step to restore critical aid.
Now it’s up to the House to act. Let John Boehner and his Tea Party allies know where you stand. Tell them to stop playing political games with the economic security of 1.3 million jobless Americans. Click here to sign the petition.
