There is only one thing bigger than Donald Trump's ego -- the size of the climate lies he's been spreading on social media about this winter's freezing temperatures:
I wish I could shrug my shoulders and say "The Donald" doesn't matter -- but with 2.4 million Twitter followers, a hit network TV show, and a potential presidential run, the right-wing billionaire has a lot of influence. People listen to what he says -- so it's up to us to hold him accountable. We're going to get that ball rolling with a Thunderclap.
Who do we want our friends -- and the media -- to listen to: 97% of the world's climate scientists? Or Donald Trump?
The SierraClub's SierraRise community has gathered 28,000 signatures demanding Trump study his science and stop spreading toxic climate lies. But of course he's still spouting climate nonsense -- so let's hit him where we know it'll hurt: With his beloved social media audience.
The website "Thunderclap" lets thousands of people sign up to have their Twitter or Facebook account post the same message all at once. This Friday, let's speak as one and tell the right-wing billionaire and the media: "#DonaldTrump says, who you gonna believe? Me or 97% of climate scientists? Um, the scientists. #TrumpScience http://thndr.it/...
Please take one minute to register your Twitter or Facebook account for this Friday's Thunderclap to Donald Trump!
Danny Zuker - who you may know from his epic Twitter wars with Trump - has signed up. We've got a good chance to make #TrumpScience trend -- will you add your voice and make sure it happens?
Trump is extremely active with his personal Twitter account and responds to a lot of what gets sent his way, so we know he'll see your message. With thousands of voices aimed right at him, bringing the truth to the public, he'll see he's on the wrong side of history. He'll probably even respond to a few of them -- he may not change his mind, but the producers of his network television show will sure see the cost of his climate lies and ignorance.
The science here is pretty basic -- warmer average temperatures mean fluctuations in local weather patterns. In fact, even as the polar vortex hit the U.S., Australia experienced record heat. If Donald Trump's going to deny these basic facts, then it's time for us to use his own words against him and tell him: "You're fired."
