Governor Corbett had some bragging going on this afternoon when he learned about Pennsylvania's unemployment numbers. Uneployment went from 7.3% to 6.9% . What Governor Corbett forgot to brag about was exactly how this happened.
The Pittsbugh Post Gazette reported that 15,000 people were dropped from unemployment rolls last month and that 11,400 jobs were lost. The PPG stated:
Pennsylvania's unemployment rate fell from 7.3 percent in November to 6.9 percent in December even as the state lost 11,400 jobs during the month, the state Department of Labor and Industry reported today
Part of the reason the unemployment rate fell so dramatically, to the lowest level in five years, was that 15,000 people dropped out of the workforce from November to December. In the last 12 months 92,000 people have dropped out of the workforce.
So yeah, Governor Corbett is bragging about 15,000 people losing their UI insuarance benefits to pad his horrible jobs record. Nothing to see here folks, move along.
