The recount in the first special election for a VA legislature seat that was requested by the Republican candidate has been concluded, and Democrat Lynwood Lewis has won by 11 votes. The recount was primarily of votes cast on electronic machines and so was qucikly accomplished as it was largely a matter of opening the envelopes and examining the printouts. Absentee ballots also had to be recounted.
This comes on top of the win by Democrat Jennifer Wexton in the second election held last week.
So both new Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring and new Lt. Governor Ralph Northam have been replaced in the VA legislature by Democrats! The Dems therefore keep the majority in the state Senate.
