So how was Queen Latifah able to officiate over the ceremony?
Planned in only two weeks, the triple threat explained how she could legally perform the ceremony. “I had to get sworn in as a commissioner for the state of California, so I’m not an ordained minister like I said, but I’m a commissioner,” she said. “So you can call me to commish – Queen Commish!”
Unfortunately, the title of “Queen Commish” expired shortly after the Grammy performance. “If you come see me before 12 o’clock tonight, I got you,” Latifah responded, when asked if she could marry couples in the future. “If not, you’ll have to take the regular route.”

Madonna Arrives.
Just after the couples exchanged rings, Madonna arrived, dressed in white, to warble a few lines of her classic “Open Your Heart.” As some of the couples teared up, the audience offered a standing ovation meant for all. WP
