NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 10: Public Advocate and mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio kisses his wife Chirlane McCray after voting in the New York City mayoral primary on September 10, 2013 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. In recent polls by Quinnipi
Don't mess with Bill!
Bill might not get why Chirlane McCray, wife and long time partner to Bill de Blasio, might have a problem with Lis Smith being on her husbands staff. Because if Maher had married one of his many girlfriends and started a family, he might just understand why when you're married to strong woman who isn't going to be pushed around, an intelligent husband keeps problems far, far away.

I'm sure Lis Smith is a young lady who probably needs to stay away from powerful men of position, lest she continue to be victimized by them. See, she was actually working for Eliot Spitzer, a married man with three daughters, when their affair began. Quite frankly, its quite sad to see, especially considering Spitzer's history with women. I've got girls myself, and I'd certainly not be happy to see mine with a guy like that. But, on the other side, Lis is a political operative and Spitzer is a known political commodity. And she was his spokeswoman during his failed bid for City comptroller. We don't know who started what, but errr...when the staff starts having sexual relations with the boss, the candidate, that's a problem. There is a serious judgment question going on here. Perhaps losing her job will make her see that.

If you're Bill de Blasio's wife, and lets face it, the Mayor has made it absolutely clear that she is 100% partner in everything he does, do you REALLY want Lis Smith riding around with your husband in the back of a Suburban? Methinks you probably don't. Because even the appearance of something like personal scandal distracts you from your mission of doing some good for the folks who sent you. It isn't too much to expect public officials to keep their families intact. It isn't. Its good for them, in fact.

A smart husband keeps problems far, far away.

So yeah...Lis Smith had to get the fuck out. For obvious reasons, not 'slut shaming.'

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
