Received this e-mail from U.S. Senate candidate, Rep. Bruce Braley (D. IA-01):
Last year, the Department of Defense reported that instances of unwanted sexual contact increased 35 percent between 2010 and 2012. The vast majority of cases still go unreported.
As it stands, victims of sexual assault in the military have no choice but to rely on the military chain of command to prosecute their attackers. And it is a system that has failed its victims too many times.
Our military men and women deserve real justice. Right now, they’re not getting it. That needs to change.
That’s why I’m joining with some of my colleagues in Congress to push for real, comprehensive reform to our military justice system.
We need you to join us. Show your support for military justice reform -- sign the petition today.

Our men and women in uniform protect and serve our country. And they deserve a justice system worthy of their service.
When it comes to sexual assault in the military, the punishment needs to fit the crime. We need to take the authority out of the hands of commanders and put it with independent military prosecutors to ensure objectivity in assigning punishment.
Congress can -- and should -- take action. That’s why I’m joining with my colleagues today. And that’s why we need your help.
Add your voice to ours and take a stand for a more accountable, more transparent military justice system.
