Jaysus! I'm sure Bombast Inc already has its congressmen -- and women -- lined up like ducks in a row to pull this off.
Daily Kos still, as far as we know, a separate entity from the scaly-skinned constrictor now poised to swallow up the world, has a bit to say:
Comcast To Buy Time Warner Cable... What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Time Warner and Comcast merge to form bigger, crappier monopoly
Comcast Buys Time Warner Cable for $44B
Comcast Corp. agreed to acquire Time Warner Cable Inc. for $45.2 billion, combining the two largest U.S. cable companies in an all-stock transaction.
.... Comcast Chief Executive Officer Brian Roberts will extend his lead in the U.S. cable-TV market after trouncing John Malone-backed Charter Communications Inc., which had courted Time Warner Cable since June. Holding out for a better offer than Charter’s $132.50-a-share bid allowed Time Warner Cable to deliver an almost 70 percent gain for shareholders since the end of May.
“This leaves Comcast as the sole king of the cable hill, with John Malone and Charter hitting a brick wall in their hopes of becoming a close number-two,” Richard Greenfield, an analyst with BTIG LLC, said by e-mail. “This is a game changer for Comcast.”
John Malone, billionaire ruler of Liberty Media and Charter Communications, poor little billionaire, has lost out:
The battle between Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable is heating up. In its latest move, Charter Communications and John Malone's Liberty Media are nominating a slate of 13 independent board members to Time Warner Cable's Board. The Deal's Media Correspondent reports Chris Nolter reports the latest move by Charter to put pressure on Time Warner Cable to consider the bed. Charter is offering $132.50 a share for Time Warner Cable. For its part, Time Warner Cable says it will only consider sitting down with Charter if they raise their offering price to $160 a share. Nolter believes Malone and Charter will likely raise their bid to roughly $145 a share.
At least Liberty and Charter have a human face, John Malone, for dart-throwing images, Comcast?
Comcast Corporation is the largest mass media and communications company in the world by revenue. It is the largest cable company and home Internet service provider in the United States, and the nation's third largest home telephone service provider. ...
Comcast Cable was originally formed as American Cable Systems in 1963 and was founded by Ralph J. Roberts, Daniel Aaron and Julian A. Brodsky based on a recommendation from Pete Musser, who brought the deal to Ralph Roberts to buy his first cable system in Tupelo, Mississippi. The company was incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1969, under the new name Comcast Corporation. The name "Comcast" is a portmanteau of the words "Communication" and "Broadcast".
Comcast is just a huge, gigantic, faceless, totally nonhuman amorphous thing, grey, kind of scaly, with a gigundous mouth, poised to swallow everything.
And, speaking of congressmen -- and women -- lined up like ducks in a row, I'll just bet my congressman, Adam Smith, 9th Congressional District of Washington State, is getting ready to sternly lecture the FCC on why Comcast, Bombast, whatever, is so terribly nice and they, the FCC, should not be nasty and even attempt to stand in its way. That's what he did when Comcast/Bombast swallowed up NBC.
