Received this e-mail today from Senator Cory Booker (D. NJ) regarding unemployment insurance benefits:
I first heard from Gerri Battista after she posted a comment on my Facebook page.
She was an HR professional who lost her job last May and has spent the last eight months taking management certification classes while looking for work. Without unemployment insurance, she’s having to choose which bills she can afford to pay while saving enough for gasoline to get her to the next job interview.
Gerri and I got the chance to meet in person a few weeks ago during my statewide Restore UI Tour. Her recounting of the painful truth she is living was powerful, as were many of the other testimonials I heard from families across New Jersey who are trying to make it work -- but falling further and further behind as they wait for Congress to act.
I recorded a short video of the tour -- I hope you'll watch it and share it with your friends to spread the word about this critical issue.

Last week we came up one vote short in the Senate, but I am hopeful we can get an agreement. Martin Luther King Jr. said that “we must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”
I was disappointed with last week’s vote, but I’m confident that if we keep pushing, we can make this right.
I’ll be in touch,
Cory
