The year 2014 is not yet 2 months old. Life seems the same,Congress and the President
still have the same relationship,Republicans are still saying no to anything good for our
Country, and Oh! yes; 14 more American soldiers have died in Afghanistan. Young lives lost in this war don't even make the headlines. Families get the knock on the door and
plan a funeral for a young adult that had just started to live. I know the names and ages
of these heroes but some of the deaths have just happened. Privacy is the least we can
do for the families.

Death in War is always tragic, but these deaths are being caused by people putting on
Afghan uniforms and shooting the people who are trying to help them. The President
of Afghanistan has yet to agree on terms for our soldiers staying past this year.

We at home know a lot about a bridge scandal, bad weather, and how much the Republicans in Congress want our President to fail at everything he tries.

What we SHOULD have in the media are pictures of thousands of people screaming,
marching, and doing everything possible to bring our troops home NOW. How many
more of our young soldiers have to die in 2014?  Do you really think Afghanistan
will suddenly be at peace when we leave? How is Iraq working out after we left?
Anyone who reads knows about the religious war that has gone on for centuries
in Iraq.

I am tired  reading or hearing news stories about a  state called New Jersey,or whats
happening with Congress and our President. I don't want your loved one to die in this
never ending war.I don't want to know that another family has to bury their loved ones.

If the progressive movement stands for anything,it should scream and do what ever
we can to keep the remaining troops on the front page.We should call our representatives, start a petition, anything to end this war.We owe our heroes there
the knowledge that we at home have their "backs'. They need to know that we care
about their  continuing presence in this  country.

These brave folks are in harms way and some are giving us their lives. That matters,
that should be the topic every day in this Country,

Lets do all we can to stop one more drop of blood from being spilled there.

Bring them home now.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

year. The pretense that the U.S. is agreeable worked in Iraq to satisfy the hawks who wanted an open-ended basing relationship.
Afghanistan was before Iraq. I suspect the original idea was that basing U.S. military assets there would accomplish a few things:

    1) challenge a resurrecting Russia in the region

    2) constrain the ambitions of a rising China

    3) monitor North Korea more intimately

    4) anchor the Eastern hemisphere satellite surveillance system
    5) supervise the flow of oil to the Caspian and mineral wealth wherever
    etc.

Since Afghanistan has few significant overland roads that can accommodate large vehicles, most transport in and out has to be by air and, it turns out, the magnetism of the mountains makes electronic guidance systems unreliable. So basing modern military assets in Afghanistan is an iffi proposition. Some Afghan warlords will promise anything as long as they get paid. Being on the silk road, Afghanistan has a LOOOOONNNGGG history of taxing traders. They are highwaymen par excellence.

I look forward to your comments. You have educated me  as
the "real reasons we still are willing to let Americans die.
You also  have made me feel MORE convinced we need our troops out now.
      Thanks as usual,
      Mike
