The Republican Party of Florida went too far this time, says Charlie Crist.
In an email from Crist’s campaign, deputy campaign manager Jessica Clark relates a troubling incident during the Fort Lauderdale stop on his book tour to promote The Party’s Over.
Clark said a few Tea Party “associates” hurled “offensive, abominable” comments at Crist.
The protest, organized by the Florida GOP, shouted things like "commie whore" and other bigoted slurs Clark could not (in good conscious) put in writing.
Is this level of discourse to be expected in the Florida gubernatorial race?
Although it is expected to continue, they only way to beat them is to “steel our resolve to beat them big.”
A suggested donation of $25 can help make sure Florida’s next governor — unlike Rick Scott—will not tolerate such hateful words.
It has gone way past politics, when people cannot debate without resorting to hurling vile, intolerable epithets. Granted, not everyone is involved such discourse, but a few bad actors can absolutely ruin it for the rest of those trying to make a genuine difference.
It may not be a new phenomenon, but seems to be getting out of hand in 2014.
What is wrong with bringing a “culture of civility and respect” back to Tallahassee and beyond?
Everyone has his or her vote.
Shouldn’t that be enough?
