An 1876 law is showing up in Kanas and Arizona. Separate but equal was the law of the land in many states when Jim Crow was alive.Blood was spilled trying to end these
laws.

I have no idea why in 2014,people are even DISCUSSING not allowing people
into  their place of business because they are Gay. In Washington State a florist would
not supply the flowers for two men who wanted to marry each other. The owner is religious and doing business with these folks would offend her. I would suggest she REALLY read her bible.

I go to lunch all the time with two men. I have told both I love them. I mean I love and
care for them. I would do anything to make their life easier. Both are ill.

I am not Gay,but telling a friend you love and care for them does not make you "less"
of a man. I suggest it makes you a loving and carring one.

New laws like these will be deemed illegal by a higher Court. Why in 2014,are Republicans taking time to try and shove our humanity and morality back to an ugly
and evil time in our history? I bet someone will try and make black and white  people
from marrying each other illegal will be on an agenda in some state soon.

This era in time, feels like it might have felt in Germany in the 1930 era. Jewish people
were treated in a barbaric manner. The rest of the population did nothing to help.We
have to learn from history and not make the same choices, Gay rights is the new civil rights issue in out time. Religious folks need to learn THEY can marry anyone, and practice any type of life that does not harm others.

I will never grasp the arrogance of people who feel I should practice everything they do. God gets to judge us,period.

The National Association of Black Veterans was the group that got me into the Veterans
hospital, did all my paper work which allowed me to receive disability payments. I was
working for a friend, who is black. He grabs me bythe arm and pulls me into their store.
I remember asking how they could help a white fool like me. He looks at me for a moment, not grasping my question. Finally he  said,"we only help ugly and stupid
people". "YOU" fit those qualifications. I took no offense.

If YOU are a Republican,(your probably not reading this)you own these new laws,Ted Nugent,The Montana Republicans calling our President"s wife a whore. You only watch
Fox. I would be embarrassed to belong to such a group.

I dream for the day when color, and sexuality, are not part of our national disscussion.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Maybe we can get a second one in Topeka for another historic court ruling.  I think it would make local resident Fred Phelps' head explode . . .

was heading in the right direction when it came to understanding and respecting each other rights. Now one group is doing everything in its power to drag us back to the ugly times in America. And is doing so in the name of God. As Lewis said when Fascism come to America it will come on a cross wrap in a flag. That is what these people want Fascism. To call them evil is an understatement. Spend some time reading about some of these religious group it is scary what they want to do to America and its people.

Depends on where and when you were, but in Jim Crow states, it just changed "clothes" first...into a prison uniform.

it is finally starting to sink in to these folks that they have lost the so-called "culture war." They now see that a majority of American society, including in many cases, their children and the children of those of similar mindsets, are supporting marriage equality.  They don't understand how something that they clearly believed would never happen, has happened.  Go over to redstate sometime (make sure you have an empty stomach so you don't throw up!) and you'll see folks who still believe that those who now support marriage equality will one day wake up and change their minds back to the ways of hatred.  They are totally delusional.

But at the same time, there is a real sense that society is passing them by, and when folks like this feel that way, they lash out.  And this is how they do it.  It's the civil rights era playing out all over again, on a completely new battle field.  These laws are obviously unconstitutional, and its only a matter of time until they are struck down.  These folks know that, but they don't care.  They just want to inflict whatever pain they can, in the short term, and hope that they can build their insular little walls up until it all goes away.

I also think that the folks in position of power are also looking at their vast money wells drying up if they don't keep this culture well going. It's the only way they can now get donations.

I began to realize Jim Crow was returning in other areas of our social/political world.

In this region of the country, Nebraskan Republicans (severely Right, and Tea Party to boot) prosper by welfare programs.

Ethanol is propped up by billions of dollars a year under the guise of "sustainable energy" (never mind that ethanol consumes more petroleum to produce and sell than is rendered usable at the pump).

Other Farm programs are a boon to Nebraskans. Dairy, beef, and consumable corn products get some nice cash from the government. It's welfare redistibution of tax dollars.
    Don't believe me?
    Live around here and see...
    1) Farm properties are selling at record high rates. It's a pipeline of gold.
    2) Farmers are NOT retiring. They're keeping their businesses because of the flood of profits.
    3) Every farmer is driving a new tractor, a new pickup, and a new girlfriend.

But, if anyone mentions extending unemployment benefits, expanding SNAP (food stamps) programs (which is a support to food farmers), or any other "we'fare", all the folks here want to put extra requirements on the benefits.

As with Jim Crow laws requiring "stipulations" for someone to be a whole human, they want "we'fare" (you know what kind of people I mean- wink, wink) to have all kinds of ID's, documentation, jobs, property, or other means in order to qualify for government redistribution of tax dollars.

It's what Jim Crow was about a century ago... and it's creeping back into America, everywhere.

Suddenly, it dawns on me, Earnest T. Bass is the intellectual and philosophical inspiration of the TeaParty.

You scapegoat people for their color, race, sexuality and every other aspect you can find because that's WHO you are, that's WHAT you do.

People can always find reasons to hate others, might it be because they are in another country or State or on the "wrong" side of the track/river or whatever.

They now gang up on gays like they once did on Irish, Italians, blacks and Asians…

Thats is the ESSENCE of conservatism: gang up and limit any privilege to your own group to make you feel superior and better.
