So, just like everyone else in the state of Arizona, I was biting my nails until La Bruja decided to veto SB1062. I knew, deep in my guts, that she would; she's shown her pragmatism before when she expanded Medicare. What I loved was the buried middle finger to the hyper-Republican and unrelentingly stupid state legislature that the morons in Maricopa County saddle the rest of us with.
See, the State Legislature in Arizona is actually as stupid as SB1062 would lead you to believe- the latest bullshit they've foisted upon us is one that might actually make me leave education.
PHOENIX — Saying it will protect students from “maniacal, homicidal” killers, a House panel voted Wednesday to let schools designate one employee at each site have access to have a gun.
HB2412 permits a school district to designate a single individual in each building who could bring a weapon to school.
Rep. John Kavanagh, R-Fountain Hills, said the legislation would not permit any teacher or other person to actually carry a gun all day. Instead, the weapon would have to be locked up, with the designated person having a key, someone who had gone through 24 hours of training and a background check. -azdailysun.com
faceplant.
I can only agree with La Bruja when she sneered at the legislature yesterday:
My agenda is to sign into law legislation that advances Arizona.
When I addressed the Legislature earlier this year, I made my priorities for this session
abundantly clear…
Among them are passing a responsible budget that continues Arizona’s economic Comeback.
From CEOs -- to entrepreneurs -- to business surveys -- Arizona ranks as one the best states
to grow or start a business.
Additionally, our IMMEDIATE challenge is fixing a broken Child Protection system.
Instead, this [SB1062] is the first policy bill to cross my desk.
There are many many (MANY) reasons I dislike Jan Brewer. However, her backhanded slap at the tea-party driven loonybirds in the state legislature has earned her a bit of respect from me.
