My apologies for the delay. n ended up with an unexpected important appointment. There is a lot to discuss today, but before you get into this week's news, I would like you to read this heartbreaking piece. Life is not neat and tidy, with easy answers.

"You can count on me to never get in the way of you "preventing" an unintentional pregnancy." I'm not actually sure what that means, because if it's "unintentional" you must have been trying to prevent it. And, I don't expect to be in the room or will I do anything to prevent you from obtaining a contraceptive. However, once a child does exist in your womb, I'm not going to assume a right to kill it just because the child's host (some refer to them as mothers) doesn't want it."
Steve Martin (no, not the actor/writer), Virginia State Senator, in reply to the Virginia Pro-Choice Coalition
Later he changed "child's host" to the bearer of the child.

A Maine state representative, Lawrence Lockman, 18 years ago, said:
“If a woman has (the right to an abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman?” Lockman said. “At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.”
The lawmaker issued his own statement Wednesday, saying his previous comments did not inform his public service.
“I have always been passionate about my beliefs, and years ago I said things that I regret,” Lockman said. “I hold no animosity toward anyone by virtue of their gender or sexual orientation, and today I am focused on ensuring freedom and economic prosperity for all Mainers.”
Hmmm ... If I was a woman in Maine, I'm not sure I would trust his statement on Wednesday.

In 31 states, rapists are allowed to sue for custody and visitation rights to the children they fathered when they raped the mothers of those children. This is a petition to Ohio State Criminal Justice Committee Chairman, John Eklund demanding the support of the bill by Ohio State Senator Nina Turner which would stop these from being awarded.
