my macbook pro decided to go chips up (or down) one week before my apple care expired.
they replaced the logic board (try da mutha), the hard drive, the track pad, the fan and a week later the keyboard.
i asked why not replace the entire computer because so much was failing.
the answer i got was all that was left was the screen - and i practically had a new computer! they even upgraded my hard drive from 316gb to 499gb.
ok.
cool.
more below the twisted wires...
sooooo....
i get home, reload my operating system and boot up and within about two hours - all i got are pixels in wavy lines across the screen.
yep.
the screen self-destructed.
so, i called - now my apple care has officially ended by three days but they assured me that it didn't matter... they knew there were problems and they would take care of it.
i kept the old one hobbling along until apple decided to make the decision to replace my 15" macbook pro.
they did.
it came with the new retina screen (COOL!) and was still new in the box. i asked what size the drive was since they had upgraded me from 316 to 499 - and to my frustration, they told me it had 256gb.
after my jaw closed, i pointed out that my system already had over 296 gb of data and that the drive wasn't large enough for the data already on my system! sigh... mumble ... another week without a computer while they were going to send another one OR a 500 gb external drive.
i took the extra drive and headed home... until half way there i realized that i hadn't checked out the OTHER specs.
imagine my surprise when i found out that macbook pros no longer have r/w cd/dvd drives internally! i make a TON of dvds for friends - their riding, their horse shows, their pets - and my brand new mac didn't have a friggin internal cd drive!
so - back in the car - back to the apple store 15 minutes before they closed - and spoke to the guy handling my problems for the last two and a half weeks. he tried to convince me that cd drives were a thing of the past - i'm not having it. so - we finally agreed on an external usb superdrive - brand new - to go with the 500 gb external hard drive - and the computer in my hands rather than waiting another week for another surprise.
it is now 2:52am - and i've been able to split my data between the internal and external drives and get it sorta up and running - only to find that mavericks is now upgraded with a ton of changes. no more right click to find the available space on the drive because of the new improved way of storage (doesn't help when i'm running close to the edge) BUT there are keys to tell me - now, command "i" will show me what right clicking and "info" used to do.
sigh - JUST what i need! i have to learn an entire new operating system and instructions - but the upside is the computer screen is amazing - clear and easy to read. the response time seems to be very fast - the system boots quickly - so i guess i'll give it a try and just be the old "bitch" that has to learn new tricks - while my young "dog" will be learning his.
(btw, he's adding the "touch" now in prep for alerting on sirens, smoke alarms, co detectors, stove timers, door bells and a few new things... he's got the touch down - he's got the turning toward some of the sounds - now to start putting them together (along with constant reinforcing the sit/down/stay/come (also known as COOOOKEEEEEEE!!!!)
my baby service dog in training is learning - and i am indebted to the little bugger for keeping me safe! the training is fun for the both of us - the other day when loading the "clicker" (click/treat/click/treat/click/treat - about 20 times) we started working in the park with sit (success/click/treat) then sit/down (success/click/treat) and he looked up at us and sat, looked at the clicker THEN looked at the treat bag! we hadn't asked him to sit. heh heh - smart little bugger he is!
okay - i'm beat - i've got a computer up and running and i'm ready to dive back into the world again. sani got his pads back under his shoes and hopefully, his feet will stop being sore and we can ride again. i've got log lines to write. legal stuff to do. sorting and dumping what i no longer want or need. and i've got a new computer - brand new out of the box - to learn how to navigate.
this week has finally shown some successes - new tire to replace the shredded one on the freeway the other day, hay in and covered for sani, hand therapy going better, space cleared to get back to jewelry, fingers bending better every day.... walking baby about an hour a day (want to get up to twice a day to make the pounds disappear)... gettin' there slowly... but, at least, it is forward motion!
stay well, y'all - see ya around the GOS...
