Good morning Motlies. Today is Rosenmontag, or Rose Monday here in Germany, the big day of the German Karneval.
Karneval started last Thursday with Weiberfassnacht, or Ladies and ends tonight with Rosenmontag. On these days, staid and serious German citizens dress up in silly costumes, meet up late morning, start some serious drinking, and take public transport to the nearest big city to drink and dance in the street, before returning late evening (or early morning) again by public transport.
One particular local tradition in the Ruhr area is that on Weiberfassnacht, women are allowed, if not obliged to take a pair of scissors to a man's tie if he is stupid enough to wear one. I will allow you to ponder the symbolism of that.
So here to get a taste of Karneval, here is a video.
What's on your mind today?
