U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn (D. GA) had a big name come out and help her raise cash for her U.S. Senate bid:

Vice President Biden landed in Atlanta Tuesday morning and attended a fundraiser for Democratic Senate contender Michelle Nunn in the afternoon.

"It’s cold," Biden said as he got off the plane. according to a White House pool report. "Where’s the warm air?"

And of course the GOP started crying like babies:

The Republican National Committee (RNC) gave a response to Vice President Joe Biden's visit in Atlanta today, a brief stopover by the VP to help the Georgia Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn at a local fundraiser.

“After months of lying low and ducking the issues, Democrat Michelle Nunn has finally shown where her true allegiance lies: with the Obama Administration and its liberal agenda of government run health care, higher taxes, and record debt," said RNC spokesman Michael Short. "If the Obama Administration’s agenda is good enough for Michelle Nunn to support it in private, then why isn’t it good enough for her to support it in public?”

But Nunn and the Democrats aren't letting the GOP's crying get to them. Nunn's been busy helping others:

U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn took time off the campaign trail Monday to thank supporters, volunteers and community nonprofits while packing food at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia.

Nunn, who will qualify for the race later this week, has focused her campaign on three issues: economic development, national debt reduction and education. She said those problems can be solved if states apply the problem-solving tactics used in the nonprofit community.

“I spent 25 years engaging and mobilizing volunteers and have a profound respect and understanding of the extraordinary role that food banks and other nonprofits play in the community,” she said. “During the campaign I want to highlight and demonstrate that if we focus on problem solving and working together we can get things done.”

Nunn is no stranger to nonprofits. Before hitting the campaign trail, she was the CEO of Atlanta-based Points of Light, the world’s leading volunteer organization that aims to harness the efforts of volunteers to solve serious social problems. - Online Athens, 3/3/14

Nunn's playing it right and Biden's help will certainly come in handy.  And of course we'll have to see what happens with the crowded GOP primary.  By the way, Karen Handel (R. GA) scored a big endorsement:

The Susan B. Anthony List is throwing its support to former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel's (R) Senate campaign.

The group supports candidates who oppose abortion rights, mostly endorsing Republican women.

The endorsement could help boost Handel's flagging fundraising in the crowded GOP primary field.

Handel, while at the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research, pushed the group to end funding for Planned Parenthood, a women's health organization that provides abortions. The move triggered a huge public controversy, the group reversed its decision and Handel resigned.

This is what we're up against folks. If you want to get involved or donate to Nunn's campaign, you can do so here:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I see a grand strategy here. (0+ / 0-)

First, we're going to make Michelle a household name on the electoral circuit by electing Michelled Nunn to the Senate in 2014. Meanwhile, Michelle Obama will get increasing exposure on the world stage, as per her solo trip to China at the end of the month, and the gradual elaboration on her positive contributions to better nutrition, feeding the children at school and being an all around American Mom.
Then when it comes time to announce a successor to Obama/Biden, we'll just reverse the names and make it Biden/Obama. Joe because he's been bidin' his time and Michelle 'cause she's definitely no Michele Bachman. Though, we can thank the latter for generating name recognition among Republicans.

Star-struck Republicans are going to be hard put to dis the Michelle Obama that's been featured on Vanity Fair.

American Grown, indeed! Michelle has been a stealth candidate for a long time.

  •  Finally, to the Republican complaint about (0+ / 0-)

sending dollars as revenue to D.C., we need to point out that, if people don't want to follow the rules that apply to those using U.S. currency, they can rely on the old-fashioned hand-shake or Green Stamps instead.

Jesus said "give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's" and that's still good advice.

Ownership is not defined by whose hand a dollar is in.  Our dollars are U.S. currency whether they're in the bank of Japan or some street urchin's hand. Our dollars even serve as the official currency of Zimbabwe 'cause their government is filled with crooks.
