I'm not going to throw facts and figures at you. There are plenty of others doing that. Besides we know that the use of facts and figures changes too few minds. What needs to penetrate into our conscious minds is the enormity of how much further behind we get every day. Carbon energy is consumed at rates we can not sustain. Water is polluted. Radioactive waste is created. Plastic is created never to leave us. Poisons in the air and water get into the cells of newly conceived humans and other creatures to make permanent damage. As you read this it goes on.
The effects are showing up more and more. We gaze in wonder stupefied by what we have done. Our political systems prove their inadequacy by the day. We write about it. We do our ritual dances about candidates. We watch the destruction and do nothing constructive.
We are addicts. We can not rid ourselves of our habits. We deny their consequences. The system grinds on. Read on below if you dare.
I have not mentioned the devastation to soil and means of food production. Government, yes our beloved Obama, have done much to make this worse. We watch and write and the system grinds on.
Our education system is being made more and more a tool of the plutocracy. There is no news media to speak of. Soon we will lose the internet.
I won't be around all that much longer. I turn 78 on the 23rd. I am in fair shape so I'll keep writing while I am able.
What has to be done? You know as well as I do. We have to adopt sustainable life styles. Jobs will require more use of living energy and as little else as possible. We will need to grow food in a sustainable way making as little footprint as possible. We will have to stop dumping into our water supply and institute measures to clean it up.
Global capitalism has to go. Profit, growth and greed have to be replaced by a system that is sustainable. Clearly built in obsolescence and the other things driving us to consume have to be stopped. Jobs have to be created that sustain by repairing and fixing.
No need to spell this out here. The deniers will have lots to say. Meanwhile we don't need a weatherman to tell us which way the wind is blowing.
