WE NEED ACTION, NOT JUST TALK.
Ask anybody who has lost their home, their job, their health insurance, their food stamps, or had any other government support taken away, or been victims of gun violence and they will tell you it is Congresses fault. We have endured five years of stagnation in Congress at the hands of radical conservatives. There have been millions of Americans victimized by these “austerity” moves that actually benefit only the exceedingly rich. We have to change this. Unfortunately, many of those effected people will not be reading this. And even if they did read it they might not vote because….
Are you one of those people who always votes the party line, maybe because you parents, and theirs, always voted that way? Do you really know the difference in the parties and what’s going on in Washington. Or are you one who does not vote all the time? Is it inconvenient to do so, or do you think we can’t do anything about our government. Or do you think all politicians are crooks taking money from the very rich people, or that your one vote won’t make any difference, or whatever; well you are WRONG, we can do something about the mess in Washington. Maybe you think the mid-term election is not very important, but every representative is up for reelection every two years. Find out how your representative voted and if you do not like that voting record then do not send that representative back to Congress. The same is true for one third of the Senators every two years.
The conservatives too often, are non-thinking, believe anything, followers who shun change of any kind.
The conservative capitalist Koch Brothers billionaires are spending millions to take over the government. Soon they will be able to financially control the whole world. Right now they are nickel and dimeing the liberals to death. The liberals will never be able to outspend the capitalists. Capitalists are introducing into Congress all kinds of distractions to derail liberal fund raising efforts. Recently I read where some wingnut is writing a bill for Congress to ban gay players from the NFL. I hate that bigotry but how much time, effort and money can the liberals afford to divert from the elections into fighting that rancid bill? If the liberals lose control of both houses of Congress, not having openly gay football players would be the least of our nation’s problems. Unfettered capitalism is threatening to completely destroy our democratic society.
On the other hand liberals, tend to be progressive, thinking leaders who want to change things for the better. If the liberals gain complete control of Congress they will be able to make big strides toward fixing this broken system of government that we are now struggling with.
How could all this possibly be happening in our great, democratic country? That is a rhetorical question. Here is the answer. The learned gentlemen who put together the Constitution of the United States which describes, in some detail, how our government is structured and will operate, did many things to assure that the integrity of our constitution, our government and our country would survive as time passed and the country grew. But unfortunately, the amount of growth in the last 225 years since the constitution was ratified, and the unscrupulous lack of ethics among the most successful capitalists, have completely outstripped the ability of our constitution to fulfill that objective.
Our constitution needs to be modernized to function properly in today’s world. “But wait, there’s more”! We do not want to undertake modernizing it with a series of amendments because most people now of voting age may not live long enough to see that slow process be completed, if ever. And to throw open the task to a Constitutional Convention would open the door to anything that anybody with enough money wanted, and that would be a total disaster.
So what “We the People” must do now is develop a plan to modernize our Constitution in a way that cannot be dominated by anyone with selfish interests of any kind. The development of such a plan should involve input from many people and seek approval from a majority of the people. Social Media should be utilized as a way of hearing from all who wish to participate in the development of this plan. A project should then be established which uses this plan to systematically revise the Constitution on a piece by piece basis without loosing the original intent of each separate piece.

Think about this and comment as you like. In any case get out and vote when the time comes, and be sure your liberal friends vote too.
