Received this e-mail today from State Senator Vincent Sheheen's (D. SC) gubernatorial campaign:
It should be common sense that an equal wage is paid to workers for equal work, regardless of their gender, but sadly that is not the case.
Pay inequity is still a major issue in our country with women on average still only making 77 cents to every dollar a man earns. And worse, South Carolina is one of only five states in the country without some form of an equal pay law. This is an issue we should take immediate action on.
Equal pay doesn’t just affect workers, it impacts families. When women earn less, we are jeopardizing their ability to provide for their families and our economic growth.
It’s time to ensure a level playing field - click here to stand with me and show your support for equal pay for equal work in South Carolina.

I believe that as we work toward pay equity, our state government should be leading the way. That’s why this week I’m calling for an audit of all government departments to make sure that we have a level playing field for everyone. When everyone plays by the same rules, we can all prosper together.
I’m asking you to act now and add your name to my online petition and show your support for equal pay now.
