Welcome to the Kitchen Table! It is the weekend and time to unwind. With that in mind, for tonight's movies, I've selected some
Fantasy Adventures
One is foreign (and five stars, according to my sister and me), one a recent blockbuster, and two classics. All are available on Netflix. So without further ado, movies are below the orange squiggle...
The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec
From France, 2010. What sister wouldn't go to the end of the earth to save her sister from a living death? Well, Adèle Blanc-Sec would. She is an intrepid journalist in the year 1912. Her mission: to go to Egypt to recover the mummy of a legendary doctor. Unfortunately, the esoteric expert she wanted to revive the mummy instead revives a pterodactyl which proceeds to terrorize Paris... However, nothing, nothing, not prehistoric monsters, ancient curses, or the Paris police will deter Adèle Blanc-Sec from her goal. This is great fun and worth multiple viewings.
Big Trouble in Little China
A cult classic from 1986, this has martial arts, magic, and a lot of whimsy. Wang Chi's fiancee, a girl with jade green eyes, gets kidnapped by a gang run by an evil sorcerer and truck driver Jack Burton helps with the rescue. But wait, there's another girl with green eyes, her friend, Grace -- one for the sorcerer to sacrifice, one to make a slave? Confusion and complications ensue...of course they do! Only a movie like this could merit its own "Gangnam Style" parody... Ready, Jack?
The Avengers
From 2012 -- if you missed this on the big screen, you can see it on Netflix. Joss Whedon did a wonderful job of bringing together a large ensemble cast and team of superheroes in this rather epic story. It doesn't miss a beat. I'm sure the Marvel characters are all familiar so here is the trailer! Only the fate of the world is at stake!
Ghostbusters
From 1984, another quotable classic, wherein New York City is first infested by specters and ghouls only to be liberated by a group of notable misfits. Truly funny. Who ya gonna call? So nice this favorite is available for streaming...

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
