I wasn't planning on posting tonight, but I saw something come across my Facebook feed while hanging out with my girlfriend for the weekend that merits immediate action--and as soon as I got home, I felt I had to alert the community.  Americans Against the Tea Party reports that there is currently an effort to recruit people who want to assassinate President Obama.

Back in November, Everest Wilhelmsen, leader of the Christian American Patriots Militia, declared that Obama had forfeited his right to live by virtue of his supposedly illegal acts--and therefore, under the Second Amendment, anyone had the right to kill him with impunity.  In December, he declared that, in accordance with a "final warning" posted in October, any federal lawmakers who refuse to declare that Obama is illegally holding the presidency could themselves face assassination.  Since February, he has been using a Facebook group called "Reward for the Capture of Obama" to fund efforts to arrest and kill the president.

Now it turns out that a week before launching the crowdfunding group, Wilhelmsen upped the ante to actually recruiting people to kill the president.  AATP discovered that on February 7, Wilhelmsen reported that he was blocked from Facebook, and could only post via pinned messages.  He used one of them to solicit a list of members by state willing to kill Obama before the 2016 election.  One of the group's members, Jan Neely, posted a list of those who are already committed to hunting down and killing Obama.  The list was current as of 3 am Eastern on March 19.

This is terrorism, plain and simple.  If there is any difference between these guys and al-Qaeda, I don't see it.  Simply put, Wilhelmsen and his crew belong in prison, and they belong in prison yesterday.  But as a preliminary step, he and his cronies need to be driven off Facebook.  Report the Christian American Patriots Militia here and the "Reward for the Capture of Obama" group here.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
