Demarchy is how we select juries. We take a select group of peers from a random sample and then have them deliberate on an issue.
The advocates for the two sides of the issue then make their cases and the jury is cloistered until they make a decision.
Why dont we drop our current system and apply this model to politics? I dont like direct democracy because it weighs passive and engaged voters equally. However when people are tasked in a jury they are forced to make informed decision. A better model would be raising issues by petition or referendum followed by selection of a 'jury' to decide the issue. The random selection of decision-makers would eliminate campaigns and the cost of petitions is negligible and can be made up for by activism. This would also end the two party monopoly.
Question to the Daily Kos: IS THIS THE SOLUTION FOR CAMPAIGN SPENDING ABUSES?
