What's with all the "Liberal" bashing I've been seeing on internet comments? I know it's been there before but it seems lately like it's ramping up.
I'm noticing more and more that no matter what the subject is, one or more commenters will blame the issue on Liberals. (or Obama) Here is the example that really got me to wondering: A distressed Facebook friend posts, "Sometimes there are too many lemons to make lemonade." One of his buddies replied, "You can always squirt lemon juice in a Liberals eye." Huh? Where does this hostile, divisive BS come from? How is that supposed to help our friend? Just curious, because it seems so silly and yet they are so serious about it. Are people being brainwashed to actually believe that those other people, "The Liberals" are the cause of all problems? To me that is just a cop out. It seems like they believe that once they crow "Liberals!" that they are now absolved of responsibility for anything.
And while I'm on my rant, what's with the Poor-Shaming? I see posts blaming the poor for "getting a free ride" while completely ignoring the Oligarchy that is the real cause of income inequality. How is it helpful to post hateful biases toward those who have to rely on social services? Once again, it's merely pointing the finger, feeling smug and walking away from the problem. Cowardly if you ask me. (I was going to say chickenshit, but manure is actually a useful thing)
I guess I don't like meanness in people. It's a waste of energy and it shouldn't be tolerated. About all I can do is try to bring a kinder outlook (and facts) to these kinds of posts. Try to undo the brainwashing. A lot of times, it seems like I don't get through to them but I've learned from experience that sometimes if you plant that thought in someones head, it takes a while to grow. I've had a few successes and that is encouraging, so I'll keep at it.
OK, /rant off.
