A hasty news bit:
Both houses of the Md. General Assembly have passed a minimum wage increase. That's the good news. The bad news? it goes to $8 on January 1 and after four years hits the new floor.
Martin O'Malley, the governor, wanted the jump to happen over two years, which certainly means more for the working poor. But watering things down is a tradition in Maryland.
