My old Sony lap top died and I bought a new Toshiba with Windows 8, not voluntarily but since new computers come with 8. Don't buy Windows 8 if you can avoid it. Had I known then what I know today I would have gotten a second hand refab and been some bit less poor.
I spent almost 2 hours yesterday with tech help from Toshiba trying to get the WiFi set up as I could not find the set up tool in the bizzaro Window's program's screens. To make a very long story short, after Toshiba help lied to me, twice, through many failed attempts to register, I went on to my mac mini registered and created a password that Toshiba said I didn't need.
Those are my angry eyeballs below, but if you skirt around them it should be safe to continue.
Yesterday evening I down loaded Qucken Deluxe 2014 for W8, LibreOffice, (Windows 8 only comes with Word Pad).
The Qucken Deluxe downloaded but did not actually install when clicked. The Freebee LibreOfficce did and it opens onto a blank page that allows (Gasp. typing on it). They all showed up in the down load box but, when clicked, only LibreOffice actually installed.
I updated the Norton and it keeps opening and filling the screen with its icon page when I click other programs, so eventually that will have to be ironed out.
I have been with Quicken help and they are charging $199+ to repurchase (the Quicken email I bought from was $54 since I am a repeat user, and the Online price is $74. The $199 gives me an option to buy 1215 Quicken next year and charges for the repairs that have to be done to the Toshiba/Intel in order for the new full price Quicken to be installeld. A 2 year program cost $350.
Presumably I will have to do the same damn thing for WP and Microsoft Office and anything else I download.
If you have a computer that is loaded with the older versions of pre 8 compatible programs, treat it will loving kindness, it is worth its weight in greenbacks.
It seems that Quicken help has been farmed out to somebody else to whom I have to write my check, relying on the promise that Qucken will refund the charge for yesterdsy's failed down load. they are New Technical Help, Inc., 11026 Chestnut Ridge Ct, Fort Wayne, In. 46814.
If it looks like a scam and quacks like one it probably is one.
I will have to say that it at least looks like the Quicken is working although I am afraid to plug in to my back up disc for fear of loosing all my saved everything. The phone tech wanted awfully badly for me to open my back up files and open a link to my bank account.
Is it even necessary to say how much I hate, loath, and despise Windows 8, and how, if I had the money to blow I would love to take the brand new Toshiba and kill it with a sledge hammer?
Thanks for listening. I feel some what better now. If I go straight to moondai critters that should help a lot.
