Terri Lynn Land is a woman! Therefore, she is an expert on women. Full stop, no further explanation needed, don't even
bother to ask her about her positions on policies that affect women. Because woman!
Seriously, that is the Michigan Republican Senate candidate's new ad. If you think I'm exaggerating and that surely she has more to say on the issue, here's a transcript of the ad above:
I'm Terri Lynn Land. Congressman Gary Peters and his buddies want YOU to believe I'm waging a war on women. Really? Think about that for a moment.
[Music plays while she sips from a mug and checks her watch.]
I'm Terri Lynn Land, and I approve this message, because as a woman, I might know a little bit more about women than Gary Peters.
There are all of two issues pages on Land's website: "health care reform" and "stronger Michigan manufacturing." Health care reform, of course, means repealing Obamacare and moving to Health Savings Accounts and deregulation. Stronger Michigan manufacturing includes deregulation, the Keystone pipeline, and, on education, "Working with states we can encourage and grow a skilled workforce." If Land, as a woman, knows a little bit more about women than Gary Peters, maybe she knows that Obamacare prohibited being a woman from being a pre-existing condition. But if she knows, she apparently doesn't care enough to put it on her website. And where are issues of concern to women like the minimum wage or fair pay? They don't even rank a mention.
In fact, so great is Land's concern for women that she still hasn't denounced an attack on Gary Peters' daughters by an anti-abortion group that's endorsed her. But then, they're teenage girls, so maybe she's just not counting them as women.
