Received this e-mail from Senator Mark Udall (D. CO) today:
It's impossible to climb into the middle class when it's a struggle just to put food on the table. All American families deserve a fair shot at the American dream, and our country is strongest when everyone that works hard has the opportunity to succeed.

That's why I'm teaming up with Sen. Cory Booker and Progressives United, to call on Congress to support the Minimum Wage Fairness Act that would raise the federal minimum wage. Click here to sign our petition.

If the minimum wage had kept pace with inflation over the past 40 years, today it would be $10.86 an hour. Instead, a mother working at a minimum wage job is only making $7.25 an hour. This hardship on working families is only worsened by the fact that two thirds of workers earning the minimum wage are women.

By giving 17 million hard-working Americans a raise to a more livable wage, the economy would grow by $22 billion and create about 85,000 new jobs.

Join us in calling on Congress to act now and pass the Minimum Wage Fairness Act. Our country’s hardworking families deserve a fair shot.

If you work, you shouldn’t live in poverty — simple as that. It’s time to raise the federal minimum wage.

Thanks for your support,

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
