There! They came right out and said it:
“So come and get me, Mr. President, if you must,” Dobson challenged. “I will not yield to your wicked regulations!”
Of course, Dobson did the pious, obligatory St. Paulian rhetoric:
“I believe in the rule of law, and it has been my practice since I was in college to respect and honor those in authority over us,” Dobson read. “It is my desire to do so now...
The excuse is abortion. And, exercising total rule by pious, holy men like James Dobson over women's will and desires and personal destinies and their very own bodies. Oops, and don't forget contraception, the stuff that turns innocent sweet women into whores, sluts, I tell you! So Dobson won't have to come out as another damned old racist who can't stand the idea of a black president.
And, come to think of it, it's those damned evil, wicked poor people too! They want to have the right to say something about poverty and being poor!
But, heroic St. Paul Ryan will not let those evil persons into his hearings on “A Progress Report on the War on Poverty: Lessons from the Frontlines.” Poor people, right on the frontline of poverty, will be silenced on the issue of poverty, Ryan will personally slam the door of possible entrance right into their faces for their audacity.
Ryan's hearing will:
... feature three experts, none of them are actually low-income Americans who struggle to get by.
But that’s not for lack of trying from some poor people themselves. Witnesses to Hunger, an advocacy project that shares the stories of low-income Americans, has tried and failed twice to have some of their members who live in poverty speak at Ryan’s poverty hearings. “When Ryan had his first hearing last July,” Director Mariana Chilton told ThinkProgress, “we wrote to his office to see if we could testify, but they weren’t interested.” While Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) tried to get one of their low-income members to speak, it was too late. They were asked to submit written testimony instead.
Chilton’s organization stayed in touch with his office and immediately called his press team when they saw the announcement for Wednesday’s hearing. “They said, ‘It’s too late, we’ve already chosen our people.’” There was one slot left to be filled by Democrats, but that went to Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children’s Defense Fund. “I think Marian Wright Edelman is a great choice,” Chilton said. But “they had a stronger interest in having a more well-known person to testify.” That means that once again, the hearing won’t feature anyone who really is on the frontlines of poverty. “None of the people who are testifying today are currently living in poverty and it’s unclear if they really know what’s going on from the perspective of people living in it,” she said.
And the written testimonies they submitted will probably do little to impact the conversation. “They’re submitted and they disappear,” Chilton said.
My God! Do you expect St. Paul Ryan to associate his holy self with poor people? They might be unbathed. And stuff. And, they might say something.
Then, there's Missouri. And Democratic Governor Jay Nixon. The Congregation of Saintly Republicans tried to impeach him on grounds of guns, gays and concealed carry permits but that didn't fly.
Now Nixon -- well, saintly anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist has been obliged to fly all over the State of Missouri with his tiny batwings:
National anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist is stumping around Missouri today with Republican state House Speaker Tim Jones, in support of a GOP tax-cut plan that Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon is poised to veto.
According to Jones' office, Norquist was to join Jones at an event in Cape Girardeau this morning “to discuss the importance of fostering economic growth by lowering the tax burden on Missouri families and businesses.” The two are scheduled to appear in Springfield, Mo., later today.
The tax-cut measure, which passed the General Assembly earlier this month, would gradually cut the top individual state income tax rate from the current 6 percent to 5.5 percent, with other provisions.
Women! And their audacious wish to have control over their very own bodies and destinies! Poor people! Poor people who want to be allowed to talk about poverty and being poorl
And taxes! My God! Where will will it stop? And Wicked Regulations! The evil wish to regulate corporations! And to write rules for the conduct and ethics of business!
The only things that must be ruled are women. And poor people. And don't you ever forget that!
