Alabama's Chief Justice, Roy Moore, has made outlandish and/or outrageous comments before. If you were wondering if he had slowed down or become more discreet about some of his views, the answer is no. He traveled to Mississippi for a Pastors for Life luncheon to give a speech. And, oh boy, was it a doozy.
Take it away, Justice Moore:
I love that song you started with — ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’ — because we sang that at the United States Military Academy over and over and over, in chapel services … Our motto, everything was about God. Today, they have two men getting married in chapel. He paused to let his anti-gay attack sink in. So, excuse my fervor.
Then he goes on to discuss the First Amendment:
Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us, it was the God of the Holy Scriptures on which this nation was founded.
They didn’t bring a Quran over on the pilgrim ship Mayflower. Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history, let’s stop playing games.
He goes on to state that "life begins at conception," and then discusses his interpretation of the Declaration of Independence. I'll post a video of a portion of the speech below the orange design -- listen to as much as you can stand (if you'd like).
