While sounding the alarm on the importance of the upcoming mid-term election's, Prez this week talked about public disillusionment with the political process:

He described the public’s dissatisfaction with Washington as nearly at a tipping point, where working-class Americans see leaders as unresponsive to their most basic concerns. If that were to continue, he said, more middle-class Americans could dismiss the political process completely. “You’ve got a self-fulfilling prophecy,” Obama said Wednesday evening in Los Angeles at the home of Disney chief executive Alan Horn and his wife, Cindy. “People who have the most at stake in a government that works opt out of the system. Those who don’t believe that government can do anything are empowered. Gridlock reigns, and we get this downward spiral of even more cynicism and more dysfunction.”
He also warned about the extreme(ist) positions held by most Republicans in congress:
Obama put the blame for failing to make progress squarely on the Republicans — “a party that has been captive to an ideology, to a theory of economics, that says those folks, they’re on their own and government doesn’t have an appropriate role to play.”
Prez, I just called that Rand Paul guy a weirdo yesterday. Ive got you covered.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

So here is breakdown of the Bears drafts so far:

    Round 1:

Chicago Bears select Virginia Tech CB Kyle Fuller:

(My thoughts: Phil is looking at this pick as a replacement for the aging Charles Tillman. Tillman will teach this new guy how to force alot of fumbles and stuff.)

    •  Fuller will play key role this season for Bears (0+ / 0-)

thats it prez, ive got my Chicago people on the case now:

At 6-foot, 190 pounds, Fuller fills a need at the cornerback position while adding value to the Bears defensive sub packages with his versatility and physical style of play.

With Fuller’s 4.4 speed, playmaking skill set and the talent to slide inside of the numbers at the nickel position, he can be an impact player in the Bears sub-package during his rookie season.

Think of Fuller’s ability to matchup versus a “two-way-go” over the slot (inside or outside release) plus the technique to blitz off the edge in the Bears zone and man pressure schemes.

That’s vital in today’s game with offenses that lean on three wide receiver personnel and put stress on the defense's ability to matchup across the board in single-high safety schemes (Cover 1, Fire Zone, etc).

Based on the tape, Fuller doesn’t have elite transition skills, but he can open and run versus the vertical passing game with the leaping ability (38 ½ inch vertical jump) to climb the ladder and find the ball.

Emery landed one of the top cornerbacks in the 2014 class. And Fuller should play a key role for the Bears defense this season with the ability to push for playing time outside of the numbers.
Should Chicago be the next $15 minimum wage city?

  •  They need to make and keep promises like (4+ / 0-)

    this:

If we get a 10 seat majority in the House and 62 seats in the Senate, we guarantee that we will:

    1) cut new student loan rates to .75%
    2) split the difference with lenders to cut existing loan rates down to .75%
    3) create foreclosure reform & relief programs to prevent banks from foreclosing on homes that are less than 90 days in arrears.
    4) raise the minimum wage to $10.10 and increase it by $1 per year until it reaches $15.10, at which point it will be indexed to inflation.
    5) create a 4-yr trillion dollar green jobs program to build solar and wind power stations and install government, municipal, school, commercial and residential solar panels.
    6) create a 4-yr trillion dollar infrastructure repair and maintenance jobs program, with an emphasis on sustainability.
    7) establish two additional upper tax brackets at $750K and $3M with rates of 44% and 50% (and AMT's of 30 and 36%).
    8) eliminate the hedge fund manager tax break (and strip Schumer's chairs if he tries to bury it again)
    9) eliminate all offshore tax shelters
    10) return prisons to the public sector
    11) end mass surveillance
    12) .5% financial transaction tax, 1% on derivatives.
    13) White collar Crime regulatory, prosecutory and sentencing reform.

Do that, and we'll get Presidential election level turnout.

Don't, and complain about the voters.

attention to the issues.  And then there's the Fox "news" viewers who have distorted issues handed to them 24/7.

I e-mailed the white house the other day and asked the President to get out there on the campaign trail and tell the American people what the GOP offers and what the Dems offer.  Somebody needs to wake us up.  Why not him.  He has nothing to lose.

The GOP will destroy anything they can't own.

prez is a technocrat, he doesn't really swing so much as purely just liberal. he is a center-left technocrat (post- Clinton of course)

so basically, he is half liberal, half walmart.

he would have done alot better, given any of his faults, with something resembling a congress. congress just doesn't function as an institution of the people at all anymore.

its a big problem, and it wastes alot of time and money too. its stifling ideas.

  •  Bears: Round 2 (0+ / 0-)

Defensive Tackle: Ego Ferguson  (6-3 315)

My thoughts: It looks like Phil is bringing in some large bodies to shore up the run D, which ranked last in the NFL last year. This dude looks pretty massive, but could developmentally raw in some aspects.

Good size though for a Bears DT.

  •  Bears: Round 3 (0+ / 0-)

Defensive Tackle: Will Sutton (6-0 303)

My thoughts: Just like I said, big bodies to stop the run. The Bears run defense was one of the worst in NFL history last year.

Bears fans will not tolerate any of that.

We will go decades without a good QB, and be fine with it, but don't be putting out bad run defense on the field like that, it ain't right for the Bears.

  •  hey prez.. (0+ / 0-)

we have a thread going over here about Michael Sam and the NFL draft, check it out:

    http://www.dailykos.com/...

so i was just reading the USA Today today, or this morning over here, and they said Michael Sam may go in the 7th round maybe, but this here ticked me off:

    The groundbreaker

Michael Sam, DE, Missouri: The flaws are well known — his sacks came in bunches against lesser opponents, he doesn't have size (6-2, 261) to thrive as NFL defensive end nor fluidity to excel at outside linebacker. But his courage isn't in question, while effort, leadership and desire are always valued commodities. Good fit: Ravens

right, so these guys here are saying that he is too small to thrive, and that the frikin' Bears probably ain't drafting him either. ruined my morning..

  •  Bears: Round 4 (0+ / 0-)

    Running Back: Ka'Deem Carey  (5-9 207)

My thoughts: The Bears lack depth behind Matt Forte. I like this pick, this kid looks like a tough runner.

  •  im still here prez.. (0+ / 0-)

it looks like the Bears did not have a Round 5 pick, so we are on to Round 6.

My thoughts: I hope they draft defense the rest of the way out. maybe a safety or another cornerback this round.

It looks like they actually have 2 picks this round. One they got from Tampa Bay at #7.

  •  Bears: Round 6 (0+ / 0-)

Ill look for some vid later for this guy prez.

My thoughts: A project QB. Good move.

  •  Bears: Round 6 (cont.) (0+ / 0-)

    Punter: Pat O'Donnell  (6-4 220)

My Thoughts: It looks like he kicks the snot out of the football, which is a big plus for a punter. The punting for the Bears wasn't so hot last year, so I also approve of this pick here.

dude i love you guys. so check this out, i think Phil did a good job addressing the Bears Defense this draft, as far as covering what we really needed (i especially liked that he drafted 2 Defensive Tackles*) Drafting a project OT in the 7th is a good call too. so im gonna wrap this up with a Michael Sam collegiate highlight video (dude, that 1st sack in the vid is tough..)

im gonna keep all my prez comments on this thread as much as possible, you know what i mean.

i was posting alot about the fast food strikes today, and then went on Google News before, you know i read that alot, and on Google News i saw this today:

"As both a parent and an avid sports fan, the president loves and appreciates the role that sports play in the lives of young people, and his administration is committed to helping ensure that children continue to be active and play sports safely,"
    i agree with this.

i just read an interview with Jim McMahon, the old Bears QB, and he was talking about being all messed up from multiple concussions.

I would let my kid play street football like we did, but not any high school or college stuff, no way.

The White House will hold a summit on youth sports and concussions later this month, bringing together young athletes, academics, parents and others to raise awareness of head injuries among young people who play sports.

According to a White House official, the administration will announce new commitments by the public and private sectors to raise awareness among athletes, parents, coaches, schools and others on how to identify and treat concussions and to conduct research to help understand how sports-related concussions affect young athletes.

The White House Healthy Kids and Safe Sports Concussion Summit will take place May 29. According to the White House, Obama, an avid sports fan, wants to make sure that children can play sports safely and appreciates the role that sports play in the lives of young people.

      •  Tony D others just diagnosed with CTE (0+ / 0-)
Pro Football Hall of Famers Tony Dorsett and Joe DeLamielleure, and former NFL All-Pro Leonard Marshall have been diagnosed as having signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative condition many scientists say is caused by head trauma and linked to depression and dementia, doctors have told "Outside the Lines."

The three former stars underwent brain scans and clinical evaluations during the past three months at UCLA, as did an unidentified ex-player whose test results are not yet available. Last year, UCLA tested five other former players and diagnosed all five as having signs of CTE, marking the first time doctors found signs of the crippling disease in living former players.

CTE is indicated by a buildup of tau, an abnormal protein that strangles brain cells in areas that control memory, emotions and other functions. Autopsies of more than 50 ex-NFL players, including Hall of Famer Mike Webster and perennial All-Pro Junior Seau, who committed suicide last year, found such tau concentrations.

        •  College players have visible brain changes (0+ / 0-)

          Reuters:

Between June 2011 and August 2013 the researchers recruited 25 college football players who had been diagnosed with a concussion, 25 players without a history of diagnosed concussion and 25 similar young men who had never played.

The participants had magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of their brains and researchers used the images to measure the volume of certain brain regions. The athletes also took a computerized test to assess their cognitive abilities.

The researchers found that college athletes had hippocampuses between 17 percent and 26 percent smaller than non-athletes. Those who had been diagnosed with concussions also had smaller hippocampuses than the players without past concussions.

The longer the young men had played football, the smaller their hippocampuses were and the slower their reaction time on one of the tests.

much of the media -- for varying motives and in varying degrees -- either voluntarily accords unique publicity to these "attackers," or at least allows them to exploit the media for their purposes. This is especially true of television, which now plays such a predominant role in shaping the thinking, attitudes and emotions of our people.

One of the bewildering paradoxes of our time is the extent to which the enterprise system tolerates, if not participates in, its own destruction.

  •  Bears still struggling at Safety (0+ / 0-)

Yep, this is what I was worried about:

the Bears probably need to add a veteran at some point before the start of camp (so the new addition has a legitimate chance to learn the system) to really ramp up the competition at safety. It doesn't appear that the Bears did enough in the draft to address the safety position, but at the same time, there weren't many options, as Vereen was the best available after the team decided to grab Kyle Fuller earlier in the draft.
